Research by a group of Australian ecologists printed in the British Ecological Society's "Journal of Animal Ecology" http://www.giantsteamstore.com/men-giants/geoff-schwartz-authentic-jersey/ , tells how the world's biggest living reptile was found in so many different South Pacific islands, even though they have very little strength for swimming.
"Like a surfer catching a wave, river Crocodiles, which can grow up to 20 feet (6 meters), can ride currents and cross hundreds of miles of open sea," said Hamish Campbell a University of Queensland ecologist and author of the study.
The research began in 2002, in the tropics of Australia's Queensland state and involved television personality and environmentalist, Steve Irwin, known as the, who was killed by a stingray barb off Queensland in 2006.
Using sonar transmitters and underwater receivers to track their movements over one year, the team tagged 27 adult crocodiles in the remote Kennedy River region.}
Campbell reported a 20-minute swim is a struggle for a crocodile, so he wasastounded when eight of the labeled crocodiles repeatedly made long journeys out to sea from their river home area that was over 35 miles (60 kilometers) inland.
Campbell said "It did seem unlikely that they were swimming the entire way and when we looked at residual surface currents from satellite images, you could see quite clearly that they were indeed following the current systems".
One 13-foot (3.8-meter) male swam 367 miles (590 kilometers) over 25 days to reach another river system, where it rested for seven months before returning.
"Why he went there, we have absolutely no idea, but it seems very deliberate, purposeful movements," said Campbell.
The research showed that currents are able to carry crocodiles, which can survive for several months [[without|with no}} food food or fresh water, across vast areas of the sea. It also explains why the same types of estuarine crocodile is found in different nations, separated by the ocean.
Zoologist Grahame Webb,an Australian crocodile expert independent of the study, welcomed the research as the fresh presentation of how crocodiles use tides.
Webb said "Long distances voyages at sea have always been a bit rare with crocs, and people have suspected that currents played a part. The research shows they're much more mobile than people realize".
Enormous crocodiles are powerful, but tire quickly. A 20-minute thrash about in a trap can kill a crocodile, because expending energy causes a quick buildup of lactic acid in their blood.
Estuarine crocodiles mainly live in rivers and mangroves in a range extending over more than 3,800 square miles (10,000 square kilometers) of the Southeast Pacific from Australia to China and India to Fiji.
A number of Solomon Island crocodiles were found in Vanuatu, a distance of around 1000 kms. It is thought the crocs went missing during a cyclone.

"Never underestimate your audience," famed choreographer Wang Yuanyuan stressed several times during her interview with the Global Times. This statement underlined the confidence she has in her decision to continue presenting her once highly controversial work The Golden Lotus, now retitled as The Lotus.

Adapted from the erotic Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) novel The Golden Lotus, the eponymous dance production created by Wang's Beijing Dance Theater (BDT) achieved great success when it premiered at the Hong Kong Art Festival in 2011. But soon after, a huge storm of controversies surrounded the production over its bold presentation of the more sensual parts of the original novel, forcing Wang to halt the production's scheduled tour in the Chinese mainland.

"The tour schedule has been set for the rest of the year," Wang said. "It will mainly head to some second- and third-tier cities in the southern part of the country."

Complicated adaptation

One of the country's most famous choreographers, in recent years Wang's reputation has actually increased more overseas than within China. Her dance troupe BDT, which she established eight years ago and mainly focuses on ballet and modern dance, have been staging more performances in foreign markets.

Wang first came to public attention in the mainland after she began cooperating with a list of famous film directors, including Feng Xiaogang and Zhang Yimou, to handle the choreography for their films or stage productions. In 2011, at the invitation of the Hong Kong Art Festival, Wang took on a commission to choreograph the adaptation of the legendary Ming novel.

"It was a great honor as an artist to receive an invitation from such a high-level international art festival," said Wang. "If you read what the foreign critics wrote about the premiere of The Golden Lotus back then you would see that they all saw it as a work of art."

One of the country's most famous works of literature, The Golden Lotus has long been trapped in an awkward position in Chinese literature history due to its rich depictions of humanity and philosophy on one side and its stark depiction of sexuality on the other. Based on such a complicated novel, the modern dance drama, an art form still unfamiliar to many Chinese audiences, faced a number of huge difficulties, everything from how to choreograph the action to marketing, right from the start.

In order to better depict the essence of the novel on stage, Wang invited a group of big-names to join her team, such as Oscar winning costume designer Tim Yip and Chen Qigang as a music consultant. Soon after the drama premiered in Hong Kong, some critics labeled the performance as the "sexiest dance" in the country.

However, Wang felt that this label didn't actually give the performance, or the original novel, enough credit. "The Golden Lotus unfolds a much bigger picture, even covering the legal system at the time," said Wang. As for the perform.
